Culinary Class

Welcome to Culinary class. You should have some food experience to participate in this class. You should have a desire to work with food, create foods, and investigate food topics. This class will cook often, however, this is a class that will also explore elements of the food service industry such as customer relations and Serv Safe certification.

Experience working in the food industry would be helpful, but not required.

Assignment #1. Watch the Food Network. Critique the show. What did they cook? Who was the chef? What did you notice about the food worked with, equipment used, preparation techniques, and plating the food on the show? One page maximum. 5-25 points possible.

Submit assignment to ltomlinson@avabears.net or in writing to the Culinary drawer in class.

Facs Class

Facs stands for Family & Consumer Sciences. A better title for this class would be Exploratory Facs because in this class we explore all the areas of Family & Consumer Sciences.

Health, Nutrition, Child Care, Foods, Housing, Finance, Relationships, and Sewing are a few of the topics we will study.

Yes, we will take home the Baby Think-It-Over dolls some time this year. We will also cook a bit, and sew a project. Facs also is all about the soft skills of the workplace. Teamwork and leadership are key to your future.

FCCLA programs such as Power of One, Star Evetns, and participation in National Programs will help develop these needed skills.

Welcome to class!

Assignment #1. Describe your family and your self to me. One paragraph each with a conclusion third paragraph. E-mail your paper to me at ltomlinson@avabears.net or write it and turn it in to the proper basket in class.

Nutrition Class

Hello Nutrition students. This is going to be an exploration of historical and modern nutrition information to enable this group to inform and educate others in nutrition.

We will work with the Ava Schools Health and Nutrition Team to carry out projects to promote health in the district. Projects will also follow FCCLA National Programs such as Student Body and Family Ties.

Students should join FCCLA and prepare a Star Event for competition in January. Star Events vary so there should be something for everyone.

Nutrition grades will be based upon attendance, labs, projects, and participation as well as chapter work and tests.

Assignment #1. Tell my about your daily diet, usually. What does you regular breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner consist of? What are your food preferences, likes, dislikes, and problem areas.
Submit as an e-mail to ltomlinson@avabears.net or in writing to the class drawer for Nutrition.
